InWEA: India to be wind power hub
Highlighting the huge scope and potential for India to emerge as a hub for wind power, Anil Kane, Chairman of Indian Wind Energy Association said that, Government should play a proactive role to boost the sector in the country. Speaking to India Infoline, he said that, "Germany alone produces 18000 MW of wind energy, which is equivalent to the total consumption of Maharashtra and Gujarat together. In recent times, there has been a shift of emphasis from fossil energy to the renewable energy, "Akshaya Urjaa", globally as those fossil fuel are limited as well as cause for environmental pollution."
"Governmental incentives based on performance not on the installation costs. Operators should be given tax credits. He further demanded to do away with the uniform tariff, as the cost of production is not identical in all states. The prices should be decided appropriately on the basis of cost of production that varies from state to state," he demanded. He further said that, "The ODS rule needs to be changed, as it adds to the cost of production. It is high time to change the rule of surface transport, to allow the large size goods to be transported from place to place." "We will hold talks with Ministries both Central and State, to put forth our cause in due course of time," he added.
