PCS Sets a New Tone for Industrial Frequency Converters

Innovative Blue Line and Green Line power converters at the HANNOVER MESSE Trade Fair

Berlin/Hanover - PCS Power Converter Solutions GmbH (PCS) is presenting the Blue Line series of dynamic and flexible frequency converters at the HANNOVER MESSE Trade Fair. From April 7th to 11th, interested visitors can come to Hall 27, Booth M19 to find out about the company’s proprietary developments in power electronics for electric drive technology and energy conversion. PCS will also be presenting the Green Line series of converters, which were developed especially to transform wind energy into electricity. In combination with the Blue Line, these power converters meet the challenges the wind power industry is currently facing – stricter grid connection requirements, optimal energy quality, reduced energy costs and stable grids.

Grid connection requirements are becoming stricter in many countries, including Spain, Germany, Great Britain, Romania and China. That’s why PCS is focusing more heavily on grid compatibility for wind power. In addition to its established solutions – the IGBT-based four-quadrant full power converter and the Green Line 1000 reactive current converter – PCS now also offers an all-in-one solution for low voltage ride through (LVRT). “Our new product meets all the international grid code requirements for wind turbines. It not only provides the required reactive current, but also maintains the generator voltage,” explains PCS CEO Günter Mayer. This reduces the strain on the system’s mechanical components and ensures a stable energy output even during voltage drops. This all-in-one solution can be cost-effectively added to existing sys-tems or integrated into new ones.

While the converters of the Green Line series ensure high energy yields, the Blue Line converters transfer the energy generated safely to the grids. PCS’s presentation in Hanover will focus particularly on the Blue Line converters for active grid compensa-tion. They provide reliable protection from power failures or fluctuations in the power supply, and ensure that even systems that produce a great deal of reactive current can meet grid connection requirements. The Blue Line converters “clean” the voltage in electrical energy distribution networks using active grid compensation This process is performed by pulsed IGBT power converters with a voltage link, which minimize reactive power transmission, optimize the grid voltage quality, and compensate for reactive power, harmonics and voltage flicker.
