Gamesa realines its product and sales strategy with contracts to supply new 5 MW wind turbines

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, continues to forge ahead with its sales and product strategy, winning its first contract to supply Gamesa G128-5.0 MW turbines, an evolution of the G128-4.5 MW WTG.

Under the agreement, Gamesa will supply three units (15 MW) of the G128-5.0 MW turbine model to TuuliWatti Oy, a wind energy joint venture between Finnish energy company St1 Oy and the national retail cooperative S-Group. In addition, Gamesa will perform operation and maintenance (O&M) services for 10 years.

Specifically, Gamesa will install the turbines at a wind farm being developed by TuuliWatti in Salo, in southern Finland. The wind turbines are scheduled for delivery over the course of 2014, while the facility is slated for commissioning towards the end of next year.

This contract is part of a framework agreement signed by the two parties at the end 2012 for the supply of 135 MW in Finland. As part of this contract, Gamesa supplied 18 MW of its 4.5 MW platform to the Simo wind farm (under commissioning), and will also supply 54 MW to the Pori wind farm and 36 MW to the Tornio facility between this year and next. These WTGs, all of which specifically designed to withstand low temperatures, will be the biggest and most powerful installed to date in the Finnish market.

The 5 MW platform, one of the most powerful in the onshore market, has positioned Gamesa as one of the leading technology players in the multi-megawatt segment. The G128-5.0 MW turbine, an evolution of the 4.5 MW platform, caters to the most complex wind farm developments in terms of competitiveness and cost of energy. Its innovative modular design and technology ensure reliability while complying with the most stringent international grid-connection codes and environmental standards.
