Gamesa signs agreement with the University of Istmo (Mexico) to foster wind power learning

Gamesa and the University have designed a wind turbine operation and maintenance course that will last four months and include theoretical and practical learning

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, and the University of Istmo, located in the eponymous region of the state of Oaxaca (Mexico), have signed a collaboration agreement with a view to encouraging specialist wind power learning in the region, the country’s windiest.

To this end, Gamesa and the University have designed a wind turbine operation and maintenance course that will last four months and include theoretical and practical learning. It will be given jointly by the University’s professors and Gamesa specialists.

This initiative, which will be free of charge for participants, is targeted at local personnel in order to generate greater knowledge of wind power by means of specialist training, thereby increasing access to the jobs that the wind power industry is expected to create in the region.

The practical side of the program will make use of various wind turbine parts (nacelle, generator, cells, control cabinets, gearbox, etc.) provided by Gamesa and transferred to the University’s La Ventosa campus. The agreement with the University also encompasses the use of these parts by the latter’s renewable energy faculties, as well as the fostering and development, together with the broader university community, of renewable energy know-how and learning.

Gamesa in Mexico: Gamesa has a significant presence in Latin America and particularly in Mexico, where it develops both the development and sale of wind farms activity as well as the supply, installation, operation and maintenance of wind turbines.

The company has installed 765 MW in Mexico. As a wind power developer, Gamesa has developed, built and commissioned more than 170 MW, it is building another 144 MW and has a portfolio of 544 MW at varying stages of development.

With 19 years’ experience and 27,000 MW installed in 40 countries, Gamesa is a global technological leader in the wind industry. Its comprehensive expertise includes the design, manufacturing, installation and maintenance of wind turbines (19,000 MW managed). Gamesa is also a world leader in the development, construction and sale of wind farms, having installed 6,000 MW and having a portfolio of 18,000 MW at various stages of development in Europe, America and Asia.
