This week: Wind Energy in France - GDF-Suez, EDP Join Areva in French Offshore Wind Farm Bid
French power utilities GDF-Suez and EDP Renewables, part of Portugal’s Energias de Portugal group, have decided to join French nuclear technology group Areva to submit tenders for two offshore wind farm projects in France.
The companies will bid for 500-megawatt wind farms to be built at Le Treport, in the English Channel, and near the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier, on the French Atlantic coast. .
GDF-Suez is the leading producer of wind energy in France, and EDP Renewables is the third producer of wind power in the world. Together, the two groups have 36,000 megawatts of installed production capacity for renewable energy.
The tenders will be submitted to the French Regulatory Commission of Energy by Nov. 29.
