News Release from North American Wind Research and Training Center at Mesalands Community College

Mesalands lowers cost of wind program

Mesalands Community College is pleased to announce that they have reduced the technology fees associated with their Wind Energy Technology Program, beginning fall semester 2013.

TUCUMCARI, NM- This decision was made by the College in order to make the program more affordable for students, and to allow the College to continue to compete nationally with similar training programs.

“The fee structure for our Wind Energy Technology Program was evaluated by College Administration and Faculty,” said Natalie Gillard, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Mesalands Community College. “There are two main objectives to the reduction of the fees for this program. First of all, by making this program more affordable, we can attract more students within our community, our State, and the nation. We want to give more students the opportunity to gain the knowledge and the skills necessary to obtain gainful employment in the wind industry. And secondly, this new fee structure will enable the College to compete in this rapidly growing field.”

The College offers a number of degree and certificate options to meet the needs of students. There is a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree, a one-year Applied Science Certificate, and a one-semester Occupational Certificate in Wind Energy Technology.

Students in these programs will receive real-world training on the College’s industrial-size 1.5 megawatt wind turbine, located adjacent to the North American Wind Research and Training Center. This training is essential to preparing students for a rewarding and profitable career, as qualified wind energy technicians.

Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
