REpower signs contract for 131 MW Australian wind farm project

-Mt Mercer wind project to be supplied with 64 MM92 wind turbines -Company’s largest ‘supply & install’ contract in Australia to date -Project scheduled for delivery beginning in September, 2013

Hamburg/Melbourne, 3 September 2012. REpower Systems SE, has signed a contract with Meridian Energy Limited to supply 64 MM92 wind turbines, each with 2.05 MW of rated power, to the Mt Mercer wind farm. The Mt Mer-cer wind farm project is based in Victoria, Australia, located approximately 30 km south of Ballarat. This is REpower’s first contract with Meridian Energy and the company’s largest ‘supply & install’ contract for its MM se-ries turbines in Australia to date.

The wind turbines are scheduled to be installed and commissioned between September 2013 and January 2015. Andreas Nauen, CEO REpower Systems SE, states: “This is a landmark order. We are delighted that our wind turbine technology has been selected by Meridian Energy to construct the Mt Mercer wind farm. This reinforces our position as one of the leading players in the Aus-tralian wind energy sector, a key market for us in the years ahead.”

Speaking about the contract, Chris Judd, CEO REpower Australia, says: “Being awarded this contract during our ‘10 years in Australia’ celebrations under-scores REpower Australia’s longstanding commitment to the Australian wind energy industry and the opportunities presented by the renewable energy target, which will deliver around 7 GW of new wind generating capacity in Australia by 2020.”

The MM92 is one of the best selling wind turbines out of the REpower portfolio, in use worldwide. Including this contract REpower has sold over 1,400 turbines of this type.

With 2.05 MW of rated power, an individual turbine installed onshore can supply more than 1,250 households with electricity. As it has 131 megawatts of rated power, the Mt Mercer wind farm will provide power to around 82,000 house-holds.
