Wind Industry Profile of

Product Pick of the Week - WindMade named among world’s most ground-breaking initiatives

A new book titled The Zeronauts highlights Vestas’ initiative WindMade as one of the world’s 50 most ground-breaking and innovative green initiatives

A new book titled The Zeronauts highlights Vestas’ initiative WindMade as one of the world’s 50 most ground-breaking and innovative green initiatives. The man behind WindMade, Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing in Vestas, Morten Albaek is recognised in the book for his efforts alongside other global leaders within sustainability such as Ban Ki Moon, Al Gore, Bill Gates and Mohammad Yunus.

In the book John Elkington, one of the world’s leading experts within sustainability, writes about the initiatives he believes will have the greatest impact in creating a 100% sustainable future both socially, economically and environmentally. WindMade is among the initiatives selected.

WindMade is a non-profit organization that aims to increase the use of renewable energy by making it possible for companies to communicate their investments in wind energy to their customers and other stakeholders through, among other things, a consumer labelling scheme.

"We are incredibly proud that John Elkington in his book appoints WindMade as one of the 50 most ground-breaking and innovative initiatives to create a more sustainable society. It is recognition that WindMade is an initiative that can make a real difference in creating a society that is driven by a more sustainable energy supply, "said Morten Albaek.

"WindMade is the first initiative of its kind in the world, and since it was launched, we have had no doubt that it would make a real difference. We know that two thirds of the world’s consumers are willing to pay more for products that are labelled with the WindMade consumer label. Until now, almost 50 companies in 16 countries are members of the WindMade organization – including Deutsche Bank AG, Lego A/S and Motorola Mobility Inc. Within the next year, we expect that number will be multiplied several times."

The man behind WindMade makes exclusive list:
Besides highlighting WindMade, the book also lists the man behind the WindMade initiative, Morten Albaek on an exclusive list of people whom the author believes, has made a special effort to inspire a more sustainable society. On the list he stands alongside Al Gore, Melinda and Bill Gates, Muhammad Yunus and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.

"Naturally I am proud and surprised to be named in this list. But the real issue is how we solve one of the biggest challenges facing the world right now- namely how we meet the ever increasing energy needs in the world in a sustainable and efficient manner. I see this as recognition of the efforts we do in Vestas to contribute to the green agenda and do our part to push the world into a more sustainable direction, "says Morten Albaek.

Wind Made is a non-profit organization dedicated to increase the use of renewable energy by improving firms’ ability to communicate their investment in wind energy to their stakeholders.

WindMade strives to achieve this by making it possible for companies to highlight their investment in wind energy through the Wind Made consumer labelling, by educating people about the consequences of using different energy sources and by allowing consumers to choose products from companies that develop and produce their products through the use of wind energy.

Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against climate change. Wind power from Vestas’ more than 46,000 wind turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by approximately 55 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence.

Today, Vestas has delivered wind energy in 69 countries, providing jobs for over 20,000 passionate people at our service and project sites, research facilities, factories and offices all over the world. With 66.9 per cent more megawatts installed than our closest competitor and more than 50,000 MW of cumulative installed capacity worldwide, Vestas is the world leader in wind energy.
