ACSA DELIVERS A27-225kW WIND TURBINE TO AL-AHLI HOSPITAL WIND ENERGY PROJECT (AWEP, PALESTINE)
In the wind energy market niche of 200-250kW wind energy projects, after a stringent tender and qualification process, ACSA has received its first order from the Middle East for delivery of an A27-225kW wind turbine to the Al-Ahli Hospital in Hebron, Palestine. This first unit will be installed in 2012. The A27-225kW wind turbine series of Aerogeneradores Canarios S.A. (ACSA) is a licensed version of the tried and tested Vestas V27, which ACSA has improved even further.
The Al-Ahli Hospital Wind Energy Project (AWEP) was launched in 2009 and is the first of its kind in Palestine. The project will provide the biggest health organization in the West Bank with a large proportion of its electricity needs from a clean, safe, environmentally friendly source. Hebron, which is the largest city in the West Bank, is also one of the largest electricity consuming areas. Located at the highest point in the West Bank it is well suited for a first wind energy plant project. This landmark project will constitute a model for green energy systems in the whole region.
The AWEP-project has been funded through the European Union's Environment budget line, and will be constructed and installed by a joint venture of AlSaleh for Building and Constructions and Msader for Energy Systems, in close co-operation with ACSA. The EU contribution to this project is equivalent to 80% of the total project cost. Design of the combined solar and wind energy project and selection of the wind turbine, took place under most stringent quality requirements. Selection and tender process was supported by an established European wind energy consultancy and the European project partner The University of Twente (The Netherlands), and under supervision of representatives of the European Commission.
The order and delivery is next to multiple deliveries to other countries like the UK, Spain, Italy and to the Far East. It also firmly establishes the revitalization of ACSA’s supply chain and assembly line for this well known product with its unique characteristics, for the next twenty years , with only European components. ACSA produces, installs and maintains these units since 1991.
For single wind turbine projects and small wind farms, robustness and reliability are generally considered to be the critical success factor. ACSA has an unbeaten track record for its products, service & maintenance: more than 98% availability after 20 years of operation under the harshest conditions (yearly average wind speed of up to 10m/s, salty, dusty and gusty wind environment). During those years ACSA managed a continuous improvement program, resulting in a product that according to researchers, today is even better than the original V27 version. Only European components are used.
