Between July and September 2011, the company also received five orders for the supply of wind turbines with a combined capacity of over 570 megawatts (MW) from North America. The combined order volume for all six projects is more than USD900 million. With a total capacity of over 670 MW the wind power plants will following commissioning supply ecofriendly electricity to more than 200,000 households.

"The latest orders from North America show that our customers are continuing to invest in renewables," said Felix Ferlemann, CEO of the Wind Power Division of Siemens Energy. "Wind power is a business sector with a high growth rate worldwide and creates jobs in the areas of production, installation and service." Since entering the U.S. wind power market in 2005, Siemens has already created approximately 1800 jobs there. In addition to a rotor blade manufacturing facility in Fort Madison, Iowa, a nacelle production plant in Hutchinson, Kansas, and service centers in Goldendale, Washington and in Houston, Texas, the company has scheduled to open a wind service distribution center this year in Woodward, Oklahoma, and a distribution and tooling center in Wichita, Kansas. Before the end of this year, Siemens will also produce rotor blades in Tillsonburg in Canada.

The company is a strong number two in the U.S. wind market today and also holds a leading position in Canada, with the number one position in the Ontario wind market. In South America, Siemens Energy is gaining a foothold in the wind market. The company will be installing 2.3-MW wind turbines for three wind projects with a combined capacity of 312 megawatts (MW) in Brazil in 2012 and 2013. All new orders are for Siemens` 2,3 wind turbines, which are the workhorses of the company`s wind power portfolio. To date, more than 3,700 units of this wind turbine type have been installed globally.

Wind power is part of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2010, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about EUR28 billion, making Siemens the world’s largest supplier of ecofriendly technologies.
