Australia - GE and Leighton awarded wind energy contract

Subsidiary Leighton Contractors and global conglomerate GE expect the wind power project, which they said will generate enough power for about 35,000 homes, to be completed by November 2012

GE consortium and Leighton Holdings Ltd and has been awarded a $130 million contract to build the Mumbida wind farm south-east of Geraldton in Western Australia.

Subsidiary Leighton Contractors and global conglomerate GE expect the wind power project, which they said will generate enough power for about 35,000 homes, to be completed by November 2012.

Verve Energy and Macquarie Capital are joint owners of the wind turbines project. Leighton also announced it has appointed Craig van der Laan to the newly-created positions of Chief Risk Officer and Group General Counsel for the Leighton Group.

Leighton Holdings chief executive David Stewart said Mr van der Laan would manage and enhance the group's risk management systems and controls and the group's legal affairs.
