UK - Biggest offshore wind farm in planning
Two turbine facilities are due to be built near Skegness - including the world's biggest offshore wind farm. Around 250 turbines will be sited about 20 miles out to sea at one site in addition to 60 turbines off Ingoldmells and Lynn, near Skegness, which were approved last year. Hertfordshire-based Renewable Energy Systems wants to put up a 69.5m mast on land at Nocton Fen, south of Lincoln. The company has identified the farmland, between Nocton and Bardney, as having potential for a wind farm and wants to put up 34 turbines. The mast will carry equipment to measure wind speeds.
West Lindsey District Council has voted not to support planning applications for 14 wind turbines between Nettleham, Welton and Stainton by Langworth, north of Lincoln, and a plan to install 10 turbines on land near Laughton, north of Gainsborough. It has written to the Government in protest. Mablethorpe already has two wind turbines, which Ecotricity installed at a sewage treatment plant in Mile Lane in 2002. Work is set to begin on eight more.
