USA - GE Energy Financial invests $200 mn in wind power
GE Energy Financial Services will invest $200 million with Noble Environmental Power to back three wind farms in upstate New York. A syndicate of banks and financial institutions, including the Royal Bank of Scotland and Citicorp Inc., invested another $440 million.
In mid-2007, GE and Noble invested $564 million for three wind farms in New York, with a total output of 282 MW.
Noble began building the latest three wind farms in mid-2008 and started operating them in early April. The 97.5 MW Altona wind farm uses 65 turbines, the 106.5 MW Chateaugay facility uses 71 turbines and the 126 MW Wethersfield wind farm uses 84 turbines.
Noble has a total wind energy capacity of 726 MW. The company, founded in 2004, is owned by JPMorgan Partners.
