The European Investment Fund (EIF) is investing €60 million in Future Energy Ventures Fund I, which aims at investing in early-stage companies with a clear decarbonisation impact, supporting the energy transition. The Fund, with a target size of €250 million, is managed by Future Energy Ventures (FEV), a global venture capital investor that transitioned from E.ON’s in-house investment advisor to an independent VC firm. The investment strategy of the Fund focuses on digital and software-enabled business models, often combined with hardware, that contribute to decarbonising the energy sector.

EIF Chief Executive Marjut Falkstedt said: "Better managing our energy needs is one of the most important challenges of our time. That’s why we are excited about our participation in Future Energy Ventures Fund I. This investment aligns perfectly with the EIF’s strategic objectives and our commitment to driving the energy transition and supporting decarbonisation efforts across Europe."

Founder and Managing Partner of FEV Jan Lozek said: “The clean energy economy is the greatest business opportunity of our generation, and we are excited to be raising our second fund at this pivotal moment. Progress on innovation and investment has been steady, but there is still much work to be done to bring about sufficient speed and scale for a full transition to net zero emissions. With FEV’s track record of portfolio successes, an extensive network of industry partners, our highly collaborative approach and deep sector focus, we are in a unique position to drive the digitalisation and decarbonisation of the energy system. We are grateful to our investors for their commitments to our Fund and look forward to continuing discussions with potential institutional and strategic investors that share our vision.”

Future Energy Ventures Fund I offers an attractive platform for matching portfolio companies with corporate partners, leveraging their deep understanding of the energy sector and access to a broad network of industry experts as well as other utilities and corporates in Europe and the United States.
