Denmark resumes planning for two offshore wind farms
That Denmark had halted the approval processes of 33 Open Door projects for future offshore wind farms at the beginning of last month caused horrified reactions in Europe. Denmark feared it was in breach of EU regulations and initially wanted to have this checked.
Now the Danish Energy Agency has resumed planning for offshore wind farms in at least two cases. The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Supply has now determined that the permits for the Aflandshage farm and Frederikshavn offshore wind farms issued by the Danish Energy Agency in the fall of 2022 do not violate EU law. Permits for feasibility studies were issued for the projects in 2019 and 2018, respectively. The Danish Energy Agency has therefore resumed the procedure for the Aflandshage and Frederikshavn offshore wind farms.
At the same time, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Transport determined that the permits for already constructed offshore wind farms also do not violate EU law.
The other projects under the Open Door program will now also be reviewed as soon as possible.
