Wind Industry Profile of
Vestas with year-end orders surge
Within the last 10 days of the fourth quarter of 2022 the company reported orders with an output of 1551 megawatts. These include large orders like one of 288 MW from Brazil and another of 255 MW from Australia, repowering projects from the US (73 MW) and various projects in Italy (229 MW in total), Ireland (182 MW), Romania (60 MW), Sweden (93), Scotland (108 MW) and Germany (50 MW).
In addition, the company announced that the new prototype V236-15.0 MW - one of the largest wind turbines in the world - successfully produced its first kWh of electricity. The turbine was installed at the Østerild National Test Centre in West Jutland, Denmark, and is now undergoing an extensive testing and verification programme to ensure reliability before full type certification and series production commence.
“This is a great step forward in our ambition to accelerate the green energy transition and it is a major milestone for Vestas and our partners. Colleagues across Vestas have worked very hard and collaborated closely to ensure the rapid progress in developing and assembling the V236-15.0 MW prototype, and this achievement is a testament to the dedicated work of the many Vestas employees involved. With this wind turbine we set new standards for technological innovation, industrialisation and scale across renewable energy to create a sustainable offshore wind industry”, says Anders Nielsen, Vestas Chief Technology Officer.
Vestas has so far announced pre-agreements for a total of more than 8 GW in five different markets for the V236-15.0 MW turbine, which will be launched in February 2021.
