Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke deliver and install Power Cables for the first German Offshore-Wind Farm „alpha ventus“
Nordenham/Bremen, December 20, 2007
Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW), Nordenham, have been exclusively awarded for the infield wiring for the offhore-wind farm „alpha ventus“. The 16 km long power cable will not only be produced and delivered but also installed by the specialists of NSW. “alpha ventus” is located approximately 45 km north of the isle Borkum. The wind farm is realized by the project company DOTI, a joint venture of E.ON Energie, EWE and Vattenfall Europe. The wind farm comprises 12 5-MW-wind turbines as well as a transformer station south-east of the wind farm. NSW is starting with the installation of the cable already between July and September 2008. Consequently the first turbines will start operating already in October 2008. In addition to the installation of the cable in a water depth of more than 30 m NSW provides not only its know-how gained out of a huge variety of offshore-projects, but also special cable accessories for the wind turbines.
Due to the increasing demand from the renewable-energies sector NSW has decided at an early stage to invest € 40 Mio. in the production and development of power cables until the beginning of 2009. Thus NSW will also be in future the qualified partner for successful offshore-projects.
