Danish Energy Agency approves feasibility studies for Frederikshavn offshore wind farm
With the approval, the Danish Energy Agency determined that the content of the preliminary study report (environmental impact report) complies with the requirements of the Act and that, based on the information available, it cannot be disputed that energy production in the area is reasonable.
The Energy Agency's approval of the feasibility study does not give the project developer Frederikshavn OWF (European Energy) the right to construct the offshore wind farm, but it does allow Frederikshavn OWF to take the next steps in the application process, including applying for a construction permit. The Danish Energy Agency will only make a final decision on whether to grant an operating licence for the project after a public hearing on the environmental impact report.
Facts about the project
The project involves the installation of up to 5 offshore wind turbines with an installed capacity of between 21.6 and 72 MW on an area of approximately 5.5 km2. Each turbine will have a maximum height of 265 m. The study area is located about 4.5 km east of the port of Frederikshavn. The distance to the coast is about 4 km.
