EDP Renewables’ Jericho Rise Wind Farm Celebrates Five Years of Energy Production

Jericho Rise has been online since 2016 and produces enough electricity to annually power the equivalent of more than 32,000 average New York homes.

EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) marks five years of renewable energy in Franklin County, New York, with its Jericho Rise Wind Farm. The project sits among the New York farmland and woodlands, producing 78 megawatts (MW) of energy—enough to annually power the equivalent of more than 32,000 average New York homes.

Since becoming operational in 2016, Jericho Rise Wind Farm has provided an economic boost to the area through approximately $4.7 million in payments to local governments, contributing to the community, funding roads, schools, and other local infrastructure. Jericho Rise’s construction created 76 jobs, and the project currently employs several people to operate and maintain the wind farm. Within 50 miles of the project, approximately $10.2 million has been spent and invested back into the community, and an additional $4 million has been paid to local landowners who participate in long-term leases and easement agreements to host turbines and other wind farm infrastructure. The wind farm serves as a weather-resistant cash crop to local residents, providing financial security to landowners who receive consistent payments each year.

“Jericho Rise Wind Farm has made a meaningful impact on the area, largely through the economic benefits it provides to our community,” said Bill Wood, Town of Burke Supervisor and landowner. “I am excited to see what the future holds as Jericho Rise Wind Farm continues to operate in Franklin County for years to come.”

EDP Renewables North America is a wind industry leader in New York. The company operates six wind energy projects in the state which produces enough electricity to annually power the equivalent of more than 298,000 average New York homes each year. One of these wind farms is the Madison Wind Farm in Madison, New York, which became New York’s first wind farm in 2000, recently celebrating its 20th year in operation. These wind farms represent an estimated capital investment of approximately $1.2 billion.
