Wind Industry Profile of
94.6 MW Lyngsåsa wind farm in southern Sweden put into operation
The wind farm consists of 22 Vestas V150 wind turbines and produces electricity for the annual consumption of 80,000 average European households. It helps to save 93,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
Håkan Wallin, CEO at BayWa r.e. Nordic AB, commented: “We are proud to have delivered our largest wind farm in Europe to date, which will make a significant contribution to the Swedish energy transition. We’ve developed the Lyngsåsa wind farm from greenfield during several years of intensive project development, including a re-permitting procedure and, with the new permit in hand, we managed the complete engineering, procurement and construction process. Thanks to a great team effort, despite challenging circumstances due to the COVID-19 regulations, Lyngsåsa is now delivering green electricity to the citizens in the Southern part of Sweden.”
“The Lyngsåsa wind farm is a major project that will make a key contribution to the Swedish government's goal of transitioning the country’s energy supply completely to renewable by 2040. The implementation and sale of projects such as Lyngsåsa and Furuby also demonstrate the favorable investment opportunities in wind energy,” added Lorenzo Palombi, Director of Wind Projects EMEA at BayWa r.e.
BayWa r.e. already sold the power produced by the wind farm in 2019 to sustainable energy infrastructure investor SUSI Partners in a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
The commissioning of Lyngsåsa follows the sale of a second major BayWa r.e. project in southern Sweden: the 62 MW Furuby wind farm, which is currently under construction.
