Wind Industry Profile of

Siemens Gamesa to withdraw from Chinese market

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will continue to produce wind turbines in its Chinese facilities, but will only export them, CEO Andreas Nauen told German media outlet WirtschaftsWoche.

Siemens Gamesa CEO Andreas Nauen told WirtschaftsWoche that the company will discontinue its wind business in China. The local direct business is no longer interesting. Although the company will continue to build its turbines there, it wants to export them afterwards, for example to the booming market in Japan.

The Chinese wind market is dominated by domestic manufacturers who have such high sales figures in their home country that several of them have now made it into the top 10 turbine manufacturers worldwide.

Business in other markets considered difficult, such as Russia and Turkey, is also under scrutiny, Nauen added.

He also announced a shift to flexible pricing in turbine sales, as the cost of materials has fluctuated wildly in recent months, making fixed-price sales difficult.
