Canada - Vestas receives order for V82-1.65 MW turbines

18 units of the V82-1.65 MW earmarked for three projects near Lake Erie in the province of Ontario

Vestas Canada has received an order for 18 units of the V82-1.65 MW turbine for three projects near Lake Erie in the province of Ontario, Canada. This is the second order placed by AIM PowerGen under Ontario Power Authority’s Standard Offer Program. In December 2006, AIM PowerGen placed the first order for 24 units of the V82-1.65 MW turbine.

AIM PowerGen, a subsidiary of Renewable Energy Generation Ltd. (REG), is a Canadian wind energy developer with several development activities in a number of Canadian provinces.

The order comprises of delivery, commissioning and a two-year service and maintenance agreement. The 18 units of the V82-1.65 MW turbine will be installed at three project sites. Each site will comprise of six turbines with a total installed capacity of 9.9 MW. Delivery is scheduled for the fall of 2008 and commissioning is expected to be completed in December 2008.

The Standard Offer Program (SOP) is targeted at renewable energy generation projects and has been developed to help the Ontario province meet its renewable energy supply targets. Projects under the program are for a term of 20 years and are subject to certain requirements such as a standard pricing regime and a streamlined qualifying process.

According to the Ontario Power Authority, the SOP is expected to initiate up to 1,000 MW of distributed renewable energy generation. The program was launched in November 2006. In the first three months of 2007, a total of 36 contracts for renewable energy generation were executed, with the majority of the contracts, i.e. 20 contracts, signed for wind power projects.

“We are very pleased that AIM PowerGen has once again chosen Vestas Canada for their next set of Ontario SOP projects,” says Jens Søby, President of Vestas Americas A/S. “This validates that the V82-1.65 MW is perfectly matched for the Ontario SOP.“

Any questions in relation to the order may be addressed to Jens Søby, President of Vestas Americas A/S, telephone +1 503 327 2000.
