Vestas Italia has received an order for 18 units of the V90-2.0 MW wind turbine for the Callari project in Italy, located near the city of Catania in Sicily. The contract includes delivery, installation, commissioning and the VestasOnline™ Business SCADA solution, as well as a 5 year service & availability agreement.

The order has been placed by Callari S.r.l., a company fully owned by Alerion Industries S.p.A., an investment company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, whose core business is production of electricity from renewable energy sources.

“We are very pleased to start our working relationship with Alerion Industries,” says Rainer Karan, General Manager of Vestas Italia S.r.l. – “It is our first project with Callari S.r.l., and we are very proud to have been chosen as a supplier”– adds Rainer Karan, and concludes – “This new order also confirms the attractiveness of Sicily as an ideal setting for wind turbines due to the remarkable wind potential.”

Delivery is scheduled to start in September 2008, and the project will be completed by the end of 2008. With an estimated production of 75,000 MWh per year, the new wind power plant will be able to satisfy the energy needs of approximately 31,000 local households, and save the environment from more than 34,000 tons of CO2.
