NKT Focuses on Sustainable Cable Production
In the future, NKT will manufacture its power cables using electricity that comes from renewable energy sources. The ongoing measures reduce CO2 emissions from the plants' total energy consumption by 66% compared to the previous year and save more than 48,000 tons of CO2 annually - equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 8,148 households, the company reported.
"We are taking our responsibility seriously as a key contributor to the infrastructure needed for the green transformation. Running our manufacturing on green electricity is yet another milestone in our ambition to reduce our carbon footprint to ensure that the development of the global power grids is based on the technologies with the lowest environmental footprint possible," says Alexander Kara, President & CEO of NKT.
NKT operates cable manufacturing facilities in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Poland and the United Kingdom. For the transition, agreements are being made with local energy companies that will provide certificates that prove that the electricity is green.
