DEME Offshore Awarded Hornsea Two Contract
The 1.4 GW Hornsea Two offshore wind farm developed by Denmark's Ørsted is located 89 km off the Yorkshire coast in the UK. It will power 1.3 million homes with green electricity per year. It borders the northern and western edge of the Hornsea One wind farm, where DEME Offshore was already involved in foundations, turbines and export cable works.
DEME Offshore will transport and install all 165 monopile foundations and carry out scour protection. The transport will be handled with new DP3 offshore installation vessel ‘Orion’ which will enter the fleet by the end of the year. The new flagship features a combination of exceptionally high transport and load capacity, as well as a crane with a 5,000 tonnes lifting capacity.
Bart De Poorter, General Manager DEME Offshore, said: “We are delighted with this major contract award from Ørsted, which once again highlights our vast track record and technical expertise in providing innovative solutions for the offshore wind industry. We look forward to working with Ørsted and to leverage our joint expertise to successfully and safely deliver this major project.”
DEME Offshore will also transport and install the 165 Siemens Gamesa 8.4 MW turbines. Installation should be completed in early 2022.
