Centrica Partners with Aluminium Firm Alcoa for PPA in Norway
Centrica has signed a two-year contract with global aluminium firm, Alcoa, to provide commercial services supporting a renewable Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) contracted with a 197 MW onshore wind farm in Guleslettene, Norway.
The arrangement is Centrica’s first major contract with Alcoa in Norway. Centrica will deliver dynamic shaping and balancing services for output from the wind farm and electricity consumption at Alcoa’s Norwegian plants. The deal reaffirms Centrica’s support for renewable power and sustainable energy systems.
The 197 MW Guleslettene wind installation will be built on the west coast of Norway, close to the city of Floroe, and is expected to be operational in late 2020. In July 2018, Alcoa signed a 15-year corporate PPA with the wind farm’s owner Blackrock, the world’s largest asset manager, for 100 percent of the electricity production from the installation. With up to 47 turbines supplied by Vestas, Guleslettene will produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 40,000 homes per year.
Cassim Mangerah, Co-Managing Director of Centrica Energy Marketing & Trading, said: “We are excited about the collaboration with Alcoa, which supports renewable energy in Norway and represents a dynamic solution to manage a combined renewable PPA and consumption framework.”
