Same Procedure as Last Year...
As soon as the end of the calendar year is approaching, news from Vestas come flushing in. At the end of 2018 the Danish wind turbine manufacturer reports orders with an output of more than 2 gigawatts in just 11 days (20.-31.12.2018).
Most orders come from the U.S. with 609 MW, including the largest repowering order in the company's history to date. Vestas will deliver new turbines with a total of 383 MW to the Trinity Hills, Sherbino Mesa II and Silver Star wind farms in Texas.
There are further orders from Brazil (151 MW), Ukraine (99 MW), Poland (88 MW), Sweden (105 MW), Denmark (29 MW), Norway (328 MW), Italy (32 MW) and China (219 MW).
Two more contracts for 242 MW from Australia ensure that in 2018 alone in this country a total of turbines with an output of more than 1 gigawatt was ordered - a new record.
And Vestas is also present in more exotic markets. The 2018 orders include the supply of the largest Russian wind farm to date (198 MW), with Vestas having set up production facilities on site in order to meet the Russian requirements. Sri Lanka's first commercial wind farm (104 MW) is also supplied by Vestas.
All in all in 2018 the turbine manufacturer could secure orders of more than 12 gigawatts, thus surpassing its own 11,176 MW record of the previous year.
