Zossen-based wind power specialists install first wind farm for the Berlin power utility company
The three GE 2.5 – 120 wind turbines have a rotor diameter of 120 m and a hub height of 139 m. With 7.5 MW in total power capacity, they will generate 21.5 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity, equivalent to the annual power requirement of 6,000 three-person households.
By diversifying into the generation of wind power, this Berlin utility company steeped in tradition is doubling in one fell swoop the amount of green power it has hitherto produced using biogas plants and photovoltaic systems.
According to Michael Raschemann, one of the two directors of Energiequelle GmbH, ‘We see it as a major success that such a big-name power utility company from Berlin is committing itself to inexpensive, climate-friendly wind power. We are also proud, of course, to be playing a role in making the supply of electricity in the German capital that little bit greener.’
GASAG and its subsidiaries have around 700,000 private and commercial customers in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. This long-standing company has entered into a commitment towards the state of Berlin to reduce its annual CO2 emissions by two million tonnes by the year 2020.
