Siemens secures first order for offshore project in England

Siemens Power Generation (PG) has booked another success for its new Wind Power division.

The division will be executing its first offshore project in the United Kingdom and deploying its new 3.6 megawatts turbine. For this project Siemens PG has received an order from SeaScape Energy Ltd., jointly owned by Elsam A/S, Denmark and EDF Energies Nouvelles, France, for the supply of 25 wind turbines for the offshore wind farm in Liverpool Bay on the west coast of England. The order is valued at over EUR90 million.

For the "Burbo Banks offshore" wind farm Siemens PG will install 25 wind turbines each rated at 3.6 megawatts. The 90-megawatt total capacity of the wind farm will be sufficient to supply electricity to about 75,000 households. The construction phase will start in the spring of 2006 with completion scheduled for the fall of 2007.

Since the beginning of the nineties, Siemens has successfully implemented several onshore wind turbine projects in the United Kingdom. "This first order underscores our good market position in offshore wind business and will enable us to further expand our strong presence in United Kingdom," said Andreas Nauen, Head of Siemens Power Generation Wind Power business.

The Power Generation Group (PG) of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector. In fiscal 2004 (which ended September 30), Siemens PG posted sales amounting to approximately EUR7.5 billion and received new orders totaling EUR9.2 billion. Group profit amounted to EUR961 million. On September 30, 2004, PG had a work force of approximately 30,900 worldwide.
