Wind Industry Profile of
Feldheim wind farm: Three new wind turbines go online
Feldheim/ Kallinchen. After a construction period of only five months, three new wind turbines in the Feldheim wind farm have started to generate electricity. The new Enercon E –115 turbines have a hub height of 149 metres and a rotor diameter of 115 metres; their 3 MW generators will each feed 8 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of green electricity a year into the grid.
Parallel to installation of the new WTGs, four older Enercon E 40 turbines were dismantled. The latter four turbines, installed in 1995, were the first in what is now Feldheim wind farm. With a hub height of 65 metres, a rotor diameter of 40 metres and a 500 kW generator, they operated reliably for almost twenty years; on annual average, each of the turbines generated about a million kilowatt hours of ecofriendly power. Just one of the new wind turbines can substitute two-fold for the power output no longer produced by the four older turbines.
Feldheim wind farm now comprises 42 WTGs generating 81 MW in total rated power. Annual power generation will increase from 140 million to around 160 million kWh. About one million kWh of power per annum are needed to supply the energy self-sufficient village of Feldheim, so by far the greatest proportion of the power generated is fed into the public grid.
According to Michael Raschemann, one of the two directors of Energiequelle GmbH, “Wind turbines from every phase in the development of wind power are now found in the Feldheim wind farm. One can see very clearly the progress that wind turbine technology has achieved in less than twenty years. Wind energy can now be harnessed much more efficiently on the areas available for wind turbines, while noise emissions and other side-effects have been greatly reduced.”
