SeaRenergy Offshore successfully positions HVDC Offshore Substation BorWin beta for Siemens
Yesterday, the topside of BorWin beta followed and has been successfully positioned over the subsea structure.
The tow with the floating Siemens platform BorWin beta left Eemshaven on April 21 and reached the construction site after 24 hours of transit time on April 22. The positioning over the subsea structure required extremely precise work due to the proximity to the already installed transformer platform BorWin alpha. Eight tugs were needed to successfully complete this task at the night on April 24th. Thereafter, the topside with a weight of app. 12,000 tons was hydraulically lifted to its final position 22 meters above the water surface.
BorWin beta will be connected to the wind farms Veja Mate and Global Tech 1, which will generate a combined power of up to 800 megawatts (MW). The substation converts the alternating current generated by the wind parks to direct current and thereby minimizes the loss of power during transportation to the shore.
Besides the transport and positioning SeaRenergy has also developed the respective concepts for this project. Furthermore SeaRenergy provides the offshore personnel for the installation and commissioning of the transformer platform BorWin beta.
