New accelerometer from ASC specifically designed for off-shore applications
Advanced Sensors Calibration (ASC), one of the leading manufacturers of high quality accelerometers, has developed a capacitive sensor which is resistant to sea water and operates down to a depth of ten metres. This means that the ASC OS 115LN is highly suitable for offshore applications, e.g. to monitor wind turbines. It can also be used in other harsh application environments like automotive and aerospace engineering.
The ASC OS 115LN is based on MEMS technology (micro-electromechanical systems), and with its robust welded stainless steel housing it complies with protection class IP68. In conjunction with its particularly resilient cable, it is suitable for permanent use in sea water. This accelerometer is also characterised by a shock resistance of 5,000 g and by its ability to work over a temperature range from -40°C to 100°C.
The ASC OS 115LN has a very good signal-to-noise ratio, so it provides exact measurements even under difficult conditions. It is available as a uniaxial, biaxial or triaxial model and it tolerates an unregulated supply voltage in the range from 8 to 30 volts. It is already in use in some applications, for example to measure the stability of ship models in weather simulation tests in wavetanks.
"One of the most important target markets for ASC is the wind energy industry. To develop this market further, we have designed the ASC OS 115LN specifically for the needs of off-shore applications. We are also working on other product innovations so that we can offer our customers a broader portfolio in this area", comments Peter Bay, the managing director of ASC.
ASC is known for its customer-specific all-round solutions. On request, the company's specialists will also adapt the plugs and cables for this accelerometer to the customer's individual requirements. ASC's customers can also call on all of the company's services such as maintenance, repair and calibration.
ASC GmbH:
ASC is a leading manufacturer of high quality accelerometers and offers a comprehensive product portfolio of capacitive and piezoresistive sensors. These sensors are very robust, shock resistant and heat resistant, so they can be used variably in fields such as automotive engineering, agriculture, aviation, space travel and geophysics. ASC products are already used by well-known customers such as BMW, Audi, Daimler, Porsche, MAN, Temsa, Shanghai VW, VW Brazil, IABG, Cassidian, Siemens Transportation Systems, Technical Control Board (TÜV) Southern Rail, German Railways, Wittenstein Aerospace & Simulation, Marin, Alois Pöttinger engineering works and Fendt.
The Pfaffenhofen-based company focuses on custom manufacturing in Germany, quality and customer service. The company also offers services such as maintenance, repair and calibration for ASC products, and also for third party products. In addition, ASC is the exclusive distributor of Honeywell accelerometers and angular rate sensors (gyros) from the U.S. company Systron Donner Inertial in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
