Germany - REpower installs 6 MW offshore wind turbines in Eemshaven
REpower installs 6M wind turbines in Eemshaven wind farm. At the beginning of the EWEA Offshore wind power exhibition in Amsterdam, REpower Systems SE and RWE Innogy have concluded a wind energy contract for the delivery of two REpower 6M wind turbines.
The wind turbines, each with a rated power of 6.15 MW and a hub height of 114 metres, will be installed in the Westereems wind farm near Eemshaven in the Dutch province of Gronigen. Eemshaven is only a few kilometres from the German border, directly on the Ems estuary and south of the island of Borkum. With a current installed power of 156 MW, Westereems is already the largest wind farm in the Netherlands and will now be extended with a further 12.3 MW, and, for the first time, REpower turbines at this location. As well as the delivery and construction of the wind turbines, the turnkey project also involves the manufacturing of the foundations. Completion is already planned for mid 2012.
The two 6M turbines correspond to the type which RWE Innogy is shortly going to use in the offshore wind farm North Sea East. "The two 6M turbines are an ideal expansion of the existing wind farm Westereems. Furthermore, with operation of the plants we aim at gaining new insights for their employment on the high seas in the project Nordsee Ost”, explains Prof. Martin Skiba, Head of Offshore Windenergy at RWE Innogy.
Installation of the wind farm Nordsee Ost, some 30 kilometres North of Helgoland, is to be started in spring 2012. In total, 48 turbines of the 6M type will be used there. REpower is currently working on the production of the wind turbines at the company’s offshore production location in Bremerhaven. Production is currently on schedule, the turbines are due to be delivered in the course of 2012.
REpower is present with its offshore product portfolio in Amsterdam for EWEA Offshore at its trade fair stand from 29 November to 1 December 2011 in hall 10, stand 10230. EWEA Offshore is the world’s largest trade fair and conference for offshore wind power. Over 460 exhibitors are represented over an area of 8,000 square metres and over 7,500 visitors are expected.
